In March 2022, Görlitz launched the only one of its kind in Germany with its needs-based training and further education courses in film-related professions. The Saxon Film Academy adds another new facet to Görlitz as a film location.
The impulse to found the film academy came from renowned representatives of the film industry, who pointed out the acute shortage of skilled workers. The Mayor of Görlitz, Octavian Ursu, together with partners from politics and the film industry, brought the idea of the film academy to life. The educational institution is the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
The Saxon State Ministry for Science and the Arts supports the project. The Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung GmbH (MDM) also supports the project.

The "Filmbüro Görlitz" is located at the Europastadt GörlitzZgorzelec GmbH (EGZ) and is financed by the City of Görlitz and the Free State of Saxony represented by Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung GmbH (MDM). This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of a resolution of the Saxon state parliament.
